The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has postponed the Busia County elections for county delegates, which were set to be held next week.

In a statement on Thursday, August 21, the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) chairperson, Emily Awita, said that the elections, which were scheduled for Monday, August 25, have been postponed until further notice.

Awita, who urged the residents of the county to remain patient following the announcement, assured that the committee will ensure that it communicates the new dates for the elections in due course.

"Pursuant to the Notice dated 18 August 2025, the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) wishes to notify all Party members and stakeholders of the following correction: The County delegates elections for Busia County, which had been scheduled for Monday, 25 August 2025, have been postponed until further notice," Awita stated.

"Fresh dates shall be duly communicated in due course. Members in the affected electoral area are advised to remain patient and await the official communication on the rescheduled timelines," she added.

The announcement comes days after the party announced nationwide delegate elections in 43  counties.

In a statement on Sunday, August 17, the party said that all counties, except Nairobi, Migori, Homa Bay, and Kisumu, will be conducting the elections on August 25.

"The National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) will conduct countrywide county delegates’ elections, except for the counties of Migori, Nairobi, Homa Bay, and Kisumu," the statement read.

"The elections will take place at designated polling centres on Monday, August 25, 2025," it added.

In its statement, the party stressed the need for all prospective county delegates to ensure that they apply for the positions at the party's county offices.

For one to vie, an individual is required to pay an application fee to the party, with the amount depending on the position being sought.

According to the party's website, individuals seeking to vie for non-executive positions in the party will be required to pay Ksh1000, while those seeking women, youth, disability, and special interest representative positions will pay Ksh2,500 each.

On the other hand, all those wishing to vie for executive positions, except the chairperson seat, will be required to pay a Ksh5,000 registration fee.

Lastly, applicants for the chairperson's position at the party's county offices will be required to pay Ksh10,000.
