Eugene Wamalwa, leader of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), has refuted claims that he and former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi had fallen out with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a statement posted on his official X account on Thursday, August 28, Wamalwa dismissed the allegations as misleading and intended to undermine unity within the country's opposition.
He affirmed that the opposition would remain united and at the forefront of efforts to eliminate President William Ruto in the upcoming 2027 general election.
"No amount of Fake news will shake the unity, resolve, and focus of TEAM #WANTAM to beat TEAM #TUTAM both in the coming by-elections and General elections! The die is cast!" Wamalwa claimed.
According to the alleged fake post, Wamalwa and Muturi had a bitter disagreement with the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) party leader, urging that Gachagua did not respect political party regional balance in the country.
The post had claimed that the two leaders accused Gachagua of pushing DCP candidates into areas where their own parties already had stronger candidates and good influence.
"Justin Muturi and Eugine Wamalwa are said to have disagreed bitterly with Rigathi Gachagua yesterday. They both complained that Gachagua was not respecting the regional positioning of parties by fronting his DCP candidates in areas where their parties had more presence than him," it read.
"The two said that Gachagua should have supported their candidates instead of fielding his own. Gachagua is said to have told them that if they feel that their candidates and parties were strong in those areas, then they should not be worried about his DCP candidate," it added.
The clarification by Wamalwa comes days after the former DP affirmed that he will continue working alongside other opposition leaders and Kenyans to make Ruto a single-term president.
Speaking to residents of Kanyuambora in Mbeere, Embu County, Gachagua claimed that the President has engineered a new tactic whereby he is giving out money to Kenyans so as to regain public trust.
Gachagua told the residents to ensure they take the money offered by the president, but warned them against repaying it with their votes.
Furthermore, the former DP said that the residents should teach the president a lesson by not electing him in the upcoming elections, for firing one of their own, Justin Muturi, from a cabinet position.
"As the leader of Mt Kenya, the President will bring a lot of money here, we can not bury an elephant with its tusks, take the money but do not give him our votes," Gachagua said.
