Gold Medallist Billy Konchella Lands Govt Job as CSs Mvurya, Joho, Oparanya Make New Appointments

Two times 800m  World Championship gold medalist Billy Komintai Konchellah has been appointed to be a Member of the Board of the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya following fresh appointments by Cabinet Secretaries in the various Ministries.

Konchellah was appointed by Sports CS Salim Mvurya for the next three years. His appointment is effective Friday, August 29. His appointment comes at a time when many Kenyan athletes have been banned over cases of doping.

In the same appointments, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe appointed Winnie Beauttah be a Member of the Board of Directors of the National Cereals and Produce Board, for the next three years. Her appointment comes after Nancy W. Kibugi’s appointment was revoked.

Mining and Blue Economy CS Hassan Joho also appointed Fridah Simba Joab Tumbo, Steve Biko Luseno, and Ahmed Abdirahman Elyass, as Members of the Board of the Bandari Maritime Academy.

Joho also appointed Josiah Ochieng Obole, and Omad Idd Boga to be Members of the Board of the Kenya Fisheries Service, while Education CS Julius Migos appointed Emma Velma Achieng Maumo  and Shimoy Khalif Jilaow, to be Members of the Board of Trustees for the President’s Award.

On his part, Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku Dalmas Philip Odero is to be the Chairperson of the Institute of Human Resource Management Council. Ruku also appointed  John Mutisya Mwanzia and Beatrice Cherotich Bii to be members of the same council.

Trade CS Lee Kinyanjui made three appointments to the Board of Kenya Trade Remedies Agency after appointing Edward Wanjala, Kirui David Kibett, and Margaret Gaiteria to be members of the board.

Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development CS Wyckliffe Oparanya also appointed Millie Musumba to be a Member of the Uwezo Fund Oversight Board for the next three years.

Security Disturbed Regions

In the same notice, Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen extended the declaration made on June 18, declaring parts of Tana River County as security-disturbed and dangerous.

The areas are Madogo, Areri, Saka, Sala, Mororo, Mbalambala, and the locations. Others in Tana North Sub-County are Hirimani, Hosingo, Dukanotu, Chewele, Nanighi, and Bura locations.

The extension will last for the next 60 days and may, at any time, be withdrawn or continued in force for such further period as the Cabinet Secretary may, in each case, by notice in the Gazette direct.

The latest appointments illustrate the CS's broader strategy of reshaping leadership in state corporations and regulatory bodies.
