A University of Nairobi student has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his roommate to death following an argument about a hostel washroom.

Witnesses say the argument, which was reportedly over who should clean the shared bathroom, escalated quickly.

The victim, a third-year student, was found with fatal stab wounds. The suspect has since been arrested while the police continue to investigate the matter.

Omondi Ogola, a police officer from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kikuyu, confirmed the incident, stating that detectives had launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.

He stated that the argument escalated when friends of the victim joined in, prompting the suspect to grab a weapon.

The DCI officer said that the victim was taken to PCA Kikuyu Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

"We received a report from one of the security persons, officers from The University of Nairobi Kikuyu Campus, that there had been an incident where one student had stabbed another. The student was rushed to PCA Kikuyu Hospital, where, later on, we learn that the student had passed on."

"We suspect that death was caused by a stab injury. So I am here to confirm that we took up this matter," the police stated.

Police, working with the community, were able to arrest the suspect and secure the weapon believed to have been used in the killing.

The suspect is now being held at Kikuyu Police Station as police continue their investigation.

"Police and DCI, and members of the community worked together. The investigations were carried out, and we were able to apprehend the suspect. The suspected murder weapon was secured, and today he has been arraigned in court."

"We are seeking custodial orders so that we can further our investigation. We have yet to establish a motive for this attack. Once these investigations are complete, we will be recommending charges," he added.
