Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has lost his sister, Winnie Peninah Nyambura. The cause of her death has not yet been revealed.
In a statement released on Friday, September 5, Wamatangi revealed Nyambura's passing and expressed his sadness and sorrow over her death.
“Death is cruel. It takes from us the people we love and cherish, leaving a hurting void. But we have to accept the will of God because it is in Him we take comfort during such times,” he stated.
“Rest in eternal peace, my sister, Winnie Peninah Nyambura. As a family, we cherish the times God allowed us to be together. Go well, Nyambura,” Wamatangi added.
Following her passing, President William Ruto conveyed his condolences to Wamatangi, wishing strength and comfort to the Governor.
“May the Lord grant Governor Kimani Wamatangi strength to bear with the loss of his dear sister, Winnie Nyambura,” he expressed.
“The family, friends, and the people of Kiambu are in our thoughts and prayers at this painful time. Rest In Peace, Winnie,” Ruto added.
Little is known about Nyambura, but unconfirmed reports indicate that she was a businesswoman with interests in Kiambu County.
Her demise marked the second significant demise in Kiambu after the passing of Mzee Isaac Ngugi, the father to Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichungwah.
Mzee Ngugi passed away on Thursday morning at his Kikuyu home in Kiambu County at the age of 105. Ngugi reportedly died in his sleep.
After his death, Ruto led Kenyans in mourning Ngugi, describing him as an industrious and astute businessman and one of the key figures behind the founding of Kikuyu Town.
According to the Head of State, Ngugi touched many lives through his numerous transformative initiatives that supported the vulnerable in society, adding that his legacy would endure.
"Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends for the passing of Mzee Isaac Ngugi, the father of Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah. Rest in Peace, Mzee," Ruto wrote.
Ngugi's passing was first confirmed by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, who, yesterday evening, notified Kenyans of the death of Ichung’wah's father.
Several other government leaders also shared their condolences, including Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who expressed empathy and support for the lawmaker's family.
