The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has released guidelines detailing the recruitment of 10,000 constables, and is encouraging qualified individuals to apply.
In a statement on September 5, the Commission said it had adopted regulations to help streamline the recruitment process and ensure transparency.
“These proposed regulations aim to streamline the recruitment of members of the Service to promote transparency and ensure merit-based selection in the recruitment process,” the statement read in part
According to the Commission, all plans are in place for the recruitment process to begin immediately.
It revealed that a roadmap detailing the stages of the recruitment process, including the selection of successful candidates, has been approved, with successful applicants expected to report to designated training colleges later in the year.
“The Commission also considered and approved a comprehensive roadmap and instruments to facilitate the immediate commencement of the recruitment exercise,” it said.
The statement follows a declaration by Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday, September when he revealed that the government was to give a clear way forward on the recruitment in a week’s time.
“By Monday, we should know the day we are going to have the recruitment,” Murkomen said at an OCS's Consultative Conference held on Thursday, September 4, at the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong.
Earlier, President William Ruto had announced that the recruitment exercise would take place in September.
“I have already given instructions to the Ministry of Interior that next month (September), when we recruit 10,000 police officers, 4,000 of them must come from the National Youth Service,” Ruto said on August 28, during the NYS recruits’ passing-out parade in Gilgil, Nakuru.
In July, Murkomen announced the recruitment plan targeting the current financial year, 2025–2026, stating that the exercise was expected to begin within a month or two.
In the same statement, NPSC also announced the election of Collette Suda as the new Vice-Chairperson of the Commission.
Suda is expected to play a key role in the recruitment process as part of her administrative role.
