Just moments after President William Ruto commissioned the highly anticipated Mombasa Commuter Rail Service, the Kenya Railways Corporation has announced its fares and schedule.
In a notice, Kenya Railways announced that train rides from Mombasa Terminus to the Mombasa Railway Station in the CBD and vice versa will cost Ksh50.
There will also be a stop at Miritini, and the train schedule will align with the arrival and departure times of the Madaraka Express connecting Nairobi to the Mombasa terminus via the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
In total, the train service will offer nine trips, five from the terminus to Mombasa CBD and four in the opposite direction.

From Mombasa Terminus to Mombasa Railway Station
To cater to travellers arriving from Nairobi via the Madaraka Express at 4:00am, the first train of the day will leave the terminus at 4:10am, make a stop at Miritini at 4:14am and arrive in Mombasa CBD at 4:45am.
Another one will depart the terminus at 7:20am, pick up in Miritini at 7:24am and arrive in Mombasa at 7:55am.
Those arriving at the terminal with the 2:00pm Madaraka Express will have a train waiting at 2:25pm, which will stop at Miritini at 2:29pm and arrive in Mombasa at 3:00pm.
The last train of the day from the terminus will cater for the 8:30pm arrivals and will depart the terminal at 9:00pm. It will make a stop in Miritini at 9:04pm and arrive at 9:35pm.
From Mombasa Railway Station to Mombasa Terminus
The schedules of this route will also align with the departure of the Madaraka Express leaving the terminus for Nairobi.
To catch the 8:00am train back to Nairobi, one will need to use the 6:25am train from the Mombasa Railway Station that will make a Miritini stop at 6:53am and arrive at the terminus at 7:00am.
There will also be another train linking Mombasa CBD to the terminus at 5:30pm, which will arrive at 6:05pm after a 5:58pm stop at Miritini.
Those travelling with the 3:00pm train to Nairobi will need to depart with the 12:35pm train from CBD to the terminus. The Miritini stop will be at 1:03pm, and they arrive at the terminus at 2:00pm.
The last train from the Mombasa Railway Station will leave at 7:20pm, stop at Miritini at 7:48pm and arrive at the terminus at 7:55pm. Those taking the 10:00pm SGR train back to Nairobi have been advised to use this link train.
