An autopsy has revealed that Samson Ouma, a 35-year-old man who allegedly died in police custody in Kitale, succumbed to a blood clot.

Ouma had reportedly been in custody at GK Main Prison in Kitale, Trans Nzoia, for two weeks prior to his death.

His post-mortem was conducted on September 23, 2025 by Walter Nalianya, a government pathologist at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Nalianya explained that Ouma died from a blood clot in the vessels carrying blood from the heart to the lungs, a condition known as pulmonary thromboembolism.

The clot was linked to an injury on his shoulder.

"During the dissection of the body, we found a clot within the blood vessels that carry blood from the heart to the lungs. That was the cause of the man's death," he narrated.

The report also revealed that Ouma suffered from severe cellulitis on his left arm and severe bruising all over his body.

His arms were reported to have swollen badly, while some other injuries were believed to have been inflicted days before he died.

The family, while demanding justice for their kin, received a report on September 25, at Kijana Wamalwa Funeral Home.

Mother of the deceased, Margaret Adhiambo, said that his son was in good health before he was arrested, blaming police for what happened.

However, Police denied the allegation that Ouma died inside the station's cell.

According to Police Commander, Moses Mutisya, Ouma was taken to Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital after getting sick.
