KMTC Partners With UNHCR to Offer Scholarships; How to Apply

Students willing to study at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Lodwar campus, have been invited to apply for a scholarship opportunity to pursue an Upgrading Diploma in Community Health Nursing (Distance Learning).

In a statement on Monday, September 29, the college revealed that it had partnered with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the county government of Turkana to offer the scholarships.

The scholarship is, however, only open to residents of Turkana County, including the refugees in Kakuma and Kalobeyei Refugee Camps.

"The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), in collaboration with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the County Government of Turkana, is offering training opportunities for an Upgrading Diploma course in Community Health Nursing (Distance Learning) commencing September 2025 in the 2025/2026 academic year," the statement read in part.

"The training Scholarship will target the local community in Turkana County and the Refugee community in Kakuma and Kolobeyei Refugee Camps. The training will be offered at Lodwar Campus, and the UNHCR will provide full tuition to the successful candidates who meet the following criteria."

To qualify for the two-year course, one needs a Certificate in Community Health Nursing, two years of working experience and be registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya.

The applications should be made to the KMTC Chief Executive Officer through the KMTC application portal before October 9 and should include an introduction letter from the chief for the local applicants or from a UNHCR officer/manager for the refugees.

How to Apply

  • Visit the KMTC admissions page at admissions.kmtc.ac.ke and log in using your email and password if you already have an account.
  • If you don't have an account, click on the Register button in the top right-hand corner, which will redirect you to the form to create your account.
  • Input all details required, including name, email address and password. Use a password you can easily remember.
  • Click on the Create Account button.
  • Fill in the online application form step by step until it is duly filled, then click the Submit button.
  • You will then be provided with the duly filled form to confirm your data.
  • Confirm the accuracy of the details, then click Save Changes once satisfied.
  • On the dashboard, click on the 'Apply UNHCR Scholarship'
  • You should then fill in the required information and review the UNHCR form.
  • Lastly, print out the duly completed form, attach relevant documents, have it signed and stamped accordingly and upload to
    the portal.

Residents from the Kakuma and Kalobeyei refugee camps should add their country of origin under the 'Nationality' section, but choose the 'Foreign' option when filling in the biodata under the County, Sub-County and Constituency sections.
