Owners Count Losses as Night Fire Ravages Business Premisses in Nairobi's Eastleigh

Business owners in the Kiambiu area of Eastleigh, Nairobi, are counting losses after their shops and business premises were destroyed in a fire that ravaged the area on Tuesday night.

The fire reportedly started at around midnight on October 1 and quickly spread, consuming business structures in the area.

A video obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed traders scrambling to save their goods from the flames.

Another video showed business owners using buckets of water to put out fires while waiting for the fire brigade.

Among the properties consumed by the fire were mattresses, which made it spread easily as they are flammable.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and there have been no reports of injuries. The value of the destroyed properties has also not yet been established.

Kamukunji Fire

The incident comes barely a week after another fire broke out in Rokongo Area of Pumwani Highrise, Kamukunji on September 18.

Seven families were left homeless during this incident which began at 6:30 pm and immediately engulfed the homes and leaving the families displaced.

It was reported that no families were caught in the fire, although one suffered a broken hand during the fracas.

He was, however, transported to the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital to receive the appropriate medical attention.

Nairobi City County responded quickly to the emergency and contained the flames swiftly, preventing further damage. 

Notably, this was the second fire in as many days in the Pumwani area.

On Tuesday September 16, another fire had been reported at Shauri Moyo area of Pumwani.
