The body of a Form Three student, a South Sudan national, was retrieved in Lake Nakuru, days after being reportedly missing.

It is reported that Mark Mayan, as he was identified, had gone fishing with friends before he allegedly drowned.

Police officers from the Mwariki police station in Nakuru began an investigation after the student failed to return home with his friends.

Bol Ajak Atem, chairperson of the South Sudanese community in Nakuru, said the family learned about the incident on September 27, 2025.

According to Atem, Mayan had left home with his friends around 7:30 pm on Friday, September 26, without his parents' knowledge.

"On September 27, we were notified by his four friends that he was missing and had drowned in the lake," Atem said.

The friends informed the family and police that Mayan was with them until the moment he went missing.

After getting approval the search team was joined by the police even though the body was not found initially.

“We were given access to the National Park and tried searching through the lake for the body but we could not find it,” Atem revealed.

“We left it to the investigation team and the body was later recovered and clearly identified by relatives on Tuesday, September 30,” he added.

Mayan’s body was later transported to PNN Funeral Home for a post-mortem examination and further investigation into the incident.

Mayan was a form three student at a local school in Nakuru.
