Police in Bungoma County rescued a 27-year-old man from mob justice after he was found abusing a woman with mental disability in the County.
This incident happened in the compound of a Member of the County Assembly on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 when a relative of the victim busted the man in the act.
According to a police report, the relative, a sister to the MCA, had gone to the leader's home to pick up some items when she allegedly witnessed the incident.
The sister informed the police that she had allegedly found the man, a neighbour, sexually assaulting the 34-year-old woman.
She then raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to rush to the scene to the rescue of the woman.
Before the police arrived at the scene, the suspect was subjected to mob justice and he sustained minor injuries.
The assailant was taken to a local hospital for medical examination before being taken into custody. The victim was also taken to hospital.
According to the sister's report, the assailant had been living in the MCA’s compound for some time.
In their statement, the police added that both the assailant and the victim have learning difficulties.
“She raised an alarm, and members of the public responded and subjected the assailant to mob justice, where he sustained minor injuries. It was later affirmed by the neighbours that the assailant and the victim are both mentally challenged,” the police said.
“Officers rushed to the scene and rescued the assailant and took him to the hospital for medical treatment, awaiting further police action.”
Police added that investigations into the matter are ongoing and further legal action will follow.
