Several highways in Nairobi will likely be temporarily closed from midnight on Saturday October 4 until Sunday October 5, 2025 for the Grand Nairobi Bike Race.
The Grand Nairobi Bike Race is an annual event that attracts thousands of professional and amateur cyclists from across East Africa and beyond.
The cycling competition is scheduled to take place on October 5, 2025, with the main event at Nyayo Stadium, where it will also begin at 6am.
However, relevant authorities including National Police Service and National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) are yet to issue updates on the highway closures.
According to the organisers, the race will bring together over 3,500 cyclists from more than 20 countries.
The race will take place on several highways, including Langata Road - from Nyayo Stadium junction to areas near Karen Shopping Centre, and Bunyala Road.
Other roads that are likely to be affected include Haile Selassie Avenue, Kenyatta Avenue and Douglas Wakiihuri Road.
The race will generally stretch around Uhuru Gardens, Wilson Airport, Upper Hill and parts of the Central Business District (CBD).
According to the organisers, this year's edition, the winner will get a grand prize of Ksh4 million.
Last year, the winner walked away with Ksh3 million.
The Grand Race was first launched in 2021, and it grew with participants from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania and Burundi.
Race has several events including a 75km Main Race, 45km Black Mamba and Para-Cycling Races, 15km family Fun Ride and a Kiddie Race.
