President William Ruto has revoked the appointment of Charles Muriuki Njagagua as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Consolidated Bank of Kenya.
In a gazette notice dated October 3, the Head of State said that the revocation will be with immediate effect. Njagagau served in the role for almost three years.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, revokes* the appointment of Charles Muriuki Njagagua as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Consolidated Bank," the notice read.
The President appointed Njagagua to the post on February 10, 2023, after he lost the Mbeere North MP seat in the 2022 General Elections to the current Public Service Cabinet Secretary, Geoffrey Ruku.
The revocation of his appointment comes a month after Deputy President Kithure Kindiki unveiled him as the head of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) secretariat ahead of the Mbeere North by-elections.
Njagagua was among eight other aspirants from the party who reached a consensus and stepped down in favour of Leonard Muriuki, aka Leo.
“As a party, we are delighted that all our aspirants have agreed to endorse one candidate. This shows the strength of our democracy and unity of purpose,” Kindiki said during the unveiling ceremony on Saturday, September 6.
"We are grateful to Njagagua for his selflessness. He will head the secretariat that will coordinate our campaign efforts across the constituency,” he added.
On the other hand, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has appointed Kennedy Ntabo Otiso, Edward Kiplimo Bittok, and George Mokua as the board of Directors of the Consolidated Bank of Kenya.
Following their appointments, Mbadi revoked the appointments of Kenneth Gatheru Gatiithi, Harun Kipkemei Mosop, and Jedidah Karwitha Mwiti as board members of the bank.
Mbadi, in the same gazette notice, said that the three will serve in their roles for a period of three years.
"The three will serve as Members of the Board of Directors of the Consolidated Bank of Kenya Limited, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from October 3, 2025. The appointment* of Kenneth Gatheru Gatiithi, Harun Kipkemei Mosop, and Jedidah Karwitha Mwiti is revoked," Mbadi stated.
