Kenya has landed huge wins on the global football stage after three top officials from the Kenya Football Federation (FKF) were appointed to FIFA committees for the 2025-2029 term.

FKF President Hussein Mohammed is set to be part of the FIFA Institution Relations Committee, while Abdalla Yusuf Ibrahim, who is a member of FKF's National Executive Committee, has been picked to join the FIFA Stadium and Security Committee.

More notably, there is also a Kenyan lady in the appointments as Janet Katisya, who landed a role in the FIFA Ethics Committee (Investigatory Chamber). This body is specifically responsible for ensuring football is clean and fair across the globe.

The three appointments were confirmed in FIFA's latest announcement, where the global footballing body named officials from across the globe on its standing committee for the next four years.

Following his appointment, Hussein is now set to work alongside football leaders from countries like Brazil, India, Saudi Arabia, Austria and Sierra Leone.

His committee is particularly integral in building relationships between FIFA and other football bodies, including confederations, governments and international organisations.

Elsewhere, Abdalla, who is also the president of Donholm Seniors FC, will form part of a committee which focuses on stadium safety and crowd control.

The committee's key role will entail ensuring that federations follow strict safety and infrastructure guidelines. He will sit alongside members from Costa Rica, Algeria, the Netherlands, Türkiye and Sudan, among others.

Kaitsya's role is arguably the one with the highest stakes, as she will be part of a high-level global team investigating possible ethical violations.

She will work under the Chairperson of the Ethics Committee, Martin Ngoga, and her team will consist of members from China, Argentina, Greece and Malaysia.

The appointments mark a huge milestone for Kenya, which is slowly gaining trust in global football, particularly in leadership positions. One of the factors that helped propel the country to the world map as a sporting giant was the successful hosting of the African Nations Championships in August, where Kenya hosted several high-profile matches, including the final.

More recently, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya confirmed Kenya had submitted a bid to host the 2029 edition of the World Athletics Championships.
