A 25-year-old woman is in custody after allegedly fatally stabbing her 33-year-old boyfriend in Bomet County after a wrangle over a mobile phone.

According to Bomet East Sub-County Police Commander Michael Singa, the incident happened after a woman visited her boyfriend in his home on October 7 and demanded the return of a mobile phone, claiming it was hers.

Singa said that the couple had initially agreed to resolve the arguments later that same day.

Despite this agreement, the woman allegedly struck her boyfriend severely on the neck with a sword, killing him.

Police officers, after visiting the scene, recovered the body with deep cuts on the back of his head, and he was bleeding intensely.

According to Singa, the suspect fled the scene and later surrendered to authorities at Tendwet Police Station, where she was arrested.

The officer added that the deceased was taken to the Tenwek Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

This incident added to the rising number of domestic violence incidents resulting in fatalities across the country.

On August 26, the High Court in Kiambu convicted a woman for the 2020 murder of her boyfriend in Likii, Taita Taveta County, during a violent confrontation.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) stated that 10 witnesses were presented and issued testimonies, which proved the case, which led to fatalities.

According to one of the witnesses, the wrangle was established on the night of July 5, 2025, after a couple had fought following an earlier dispute. During the confrontation, the woman reportedly attacked him violently and threatened to kill him.

Reportedly, hours after the threats, the deceased’s body was found dumped on the roadside with a fatal stab wound to the abdomen.
