Campaigns for vacancies in various elective posts will strictly run from 7am to 6pm, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has now directed.

In a statement released on Thursday, October 9, IEBC directed contestants seeking the positions in the upcoming November 27 by-elections to adhere to the set timeline during the campaign period.

Further, the electoral commission revealed that campaigns would end on Monday, November 24, which is 48 hours before the by-election day.

The announcement came as the IEBC was finalising the registration of contestants in the 24 electoral areas where by-elections are expected to take place.

IEBC’s registration of candidates signalled the official commencement of the campaign period, granting aspirants approximately 45 days to hit the campaign trail and seek votes.

“Candidates are commencing campaigns upon successful registration by the respective Returning Officers,” IEBC stated.

“The campaigns shall end on Monday, November 24, 2025, being 48 hours before the by-election day. The campaign time shall run daily from 7:00am to 6:00pm during the campaign period,” it added.

In the by-elections, aspirants will vie for elective posts across the county assembly, constituency, and senatorial levels.

Vacant Member of County Assembly (MCA) seats include Angata Nanyokie (Samburu), Chemundu (Nandi), Chewani (Tana River), Fafi (Garissa), and Kariobangi North Ward (Nairobi City).

Others are Kisa East Ward (Kakamega County), Metkei (Elgeyo Marakwet), Mumbuni North (Machakos), Purko Ward (Kajiado County), and Tembelio (Uasin Gishu).

The second batch includes vacant Senatorial positions in Baringo and Member of Parliament seats in Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja Constituencies.

On Wednesday, October 8, IEBC cleared Boyd Were, son of former Kasipul MP Charles Were, and Seth Panyako, Secretary General of the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN), to vie for the Kasipul and Malava MP seats, respectively.

DAP-K threatened to leave the opposition in an escalating clash with Rigathi Gachagua's DCP if the latter does not withdraw its candidate,  Edgar Busiega,  for the open Malava seat.

Speaking after receiving IEBC's nod for Panyako, DAP-K warned that not withdrawing from the by-election is tantamount to disrespecting the coalition. However, in a rejoinder, DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala said the party wants to make Malava its first MP seat in Parliament.
