The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has notified the public that there will be an eight-hour system disruption on Sunday, October 12.
In a statement on Sunday, the authority notified stakeholders that the disruption would facilitate a scheduled maintenance of the iCMS.
iCMS is the Integrated Customs Management System, which is a digital platform used by KRA for handling all customs and cargo clearance procedures.
Apologising for any inconvenience caused, KRA relayed that the disruption will take place between 6am and 2pm.
"Please be advised that there will be a scheduled maintenance of iCMS from Sunday, October 12, 2025, 6am to Sunday October 12, 2025, 2pm. We regret any inconvenience caused," the statement read in part.
During the eight hours, KRA said that the system would be unavailable for both internal and external users.
Among services to be affected is cargo clearance, as iCMS allows for faster processing of cargo at entry and exit points like the port of Mombasa and other border stations.
Automation of these customs processes will also be unavailable as iCMS automates customs processes, reducing manual paperwork, and human intervention to improve efficiency and reduce corruption.
The system has been put in place to enable better tracking of goods and shares data with other KRA platforms, like iTax, to counter non-compliant traders and improve overall compliance.
It also features a robust risk management system to secure the trade chain and identify high-risk consignments for scrutiny, thus helping to prevent fraud and illegal trade.
It replaced the older Simba System in a phased rollout that culminated in its full implementation in October 2021.
The older system had been fraught with persistent issues with inefficiencies, revenue leakages, and a lack of full integration with modern digital processes.
