Four companies have announced a mass auction of unclaimed items, including motorcycles and cars, after the owners failed to collect them from storage facilities and garages.
In an announcement in the Kenya Gazette on October 9, the companies revealed that owners had up to 30 days to collect their items.
They added that the items would be sold at public auction or by private treaty if they were not claimed within the time limits set out in the Disposal of Uncollected Goods Act.
One of the companies that announced auctions is Donwell Supplies Limited in Nairobi. The company issued a notice to the owner of a motor vehicle with a KBP registration to collect the vehicle within 30 days.
It stated that the vehicle had been in their custody since April 2016.
The owner will need to settle all outstanding debts, including interest and storage charges, as well as other incidental costs, such as the publication costs.
Amuma Motor Garage in the notice listed a Suzuki Alto(KDJ) urging the owner to collect the vehicle within 30 days or it faces auction.
It also added that the owner must clear all accrued storage costs and publication expenses before release.
In Bomet County, Petfriend Auctioneers announced that they will be selling several motorcycles and cars held at Litein Police Station if owners failed to collect them within 21 days.
Among the listed items are a Toyota Sprinter, Wish as as several TVS and Boxer motorcycles.
“Petfriend Auctioneers will sell the same through Public Auction on behalf of Litein Police Station after the expiration of Twenty One (21) days from the date of this publication,” part of the notice read.
Euro Model Kenya Limited, trading as Fancy Friends, also announced plans to auction high-end vehicles, including Land Cruisers, Land Rover Defenders, Ford Everests and Volkswagen Passats.
The company's management clarified that if these vehicles are not claimed by their owners, they will be sold at public auction.
They added that owners must pay all accumulated storage charges and any other incidental costs incurred by the delivery date within 30 days.
