Moses Kuria has written to his former boss, President William Ruto, revealing that he had motivated him to vie for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027.
Taking to social media on Monday morning, Kuria penned a "Dear Ruto" letter to the President, telling him that he was up for the task of restoring Nairobi County to its former status as a cleaner capital.
"Dear President William Ruto. Today you spoke to my heart. Like Prime Minister Baba Raila Amolo Odinga has told me countless times, Nairobi can not continue to be the city of filth, garbage and incompetence," Kuria stated.
"I have heard your cry. That is why I will offer myself to be the governor of the great county of Nairobi in 2027. I will fix Nairobi."
He cited Ruto's speech on Sunday, in which he announced the national government's plan to overhaul Nairobi into a clean, modern, and globally competitive city.
While speaking during the 70th anniversary celebration of the Africa Inland Church (AIC) Ziwani, Ruto announced that the national government and Nairobi County had agreed on four development areas, where the state would channel.
"I sat down with the governor and Nairobi MPs, and we came up with a plan to transform Nairobi since it is the face of the country," Ruto said.
"The move will target all our estates, and we are in the final stages of signing an agreement with the private sector on how we are going to clean our city. It cannot continue the way it is."
He further announced that the national government was in the final stages of signing an agreement with the private sector to support cleanup efforts.
Now, Kuria wants to take on this initiative, which eerily mirrors the controversial Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) deal entered into in 2020.
During the 2022 General Elections, he lost the Kiambu County gubernatorial race and was appointed to the cabinet as the Trade Minister. He would later become President William Ruto's Senior Economic Advisor before quitting in July.
With him announcing plans to run in the Nairobi gubernatorial race, the former Gatundu South MP joins others with similar intentions, like Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and former Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera, in a bid to unseat Governor Johnson Sakaja.
