The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has written to the Kakamega Senator, Boni Khalwale, seeking a show-cause letter on why it should not take disciplinary action against him for supporting an opposition candidate in the upcoming Malava parliamentary by-elections.
In the letter obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the party cited that the Senator had openly supported a candidate affiliated with another party, yet UDA had fronted its own candidate, thus necessitating disciplinary action.
"The Disciplinary Committee of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party is in receipt of information and evidence of your various political activities, utterances and associations relevant hereto and that are widely circulated in the media and therefore well within the public domain," the letter read in part.
"These include, but are not limited to, your open support and participation in the campaigns of a candidate from a different political party and who is competing with the UDA candidate in the scheduled by-election for Member of Parliament, Malava Constituency."
Since the UDA primaries for Malava constituency on September 21, the Senator has openly supported DAP-K's candidate Seth Panyako instead of UDA's choice David Ndakwa.
UDA directed Khalwale to explain why appropriate disciplinary action, in addition to the sanctions provided in the party constitution, should not be imposed against him.
He was given 14 days to respond to the party's disciplinary committee.
"Kindly note that you have fourteen (14) days to respond and show cause as required by this letter, and should the committee find that there is a basis for proceeding with disciplinary proceedings against you, it will issue a formal summons in that regard, for your response and attendance, at such time and place as shall be directed," the letter read.
"Your response should be filed at the party secretariat. You are further advised that in terms of Article 68(p) of the party constitution, you are entitled to represent yourself in the proceedings or appear with your advocate."
Malulu Injendi's Son
UDA's letter comes just hours after the senator explained that the reason he was against UDA's candidate was that the party had denied the former Malava MP Malulu Injendi's son, Ryan Injendi, the party ticket, despite the administration helping other bereaved family members affiliated with the party.
"When Malulu died, Baringo Senator Cheptumo also died, and that was also when Migori's Dalmas Otieno died. For the two, you gave Cheptumo's widow a Ministry and Dalmas' wife was also given a big state job, but for Malulu, you did not remember the wife or even the son," he said.
"I thought you would allow him to serve as MP, but just as you denied Ryan Malulu Injendi that opportunity and brought an MCA, I have also declared that we will decide who we will vote for without interference from your office."
