President William Ruto has convened an extraordinary meeting of the National Security Council at 10am, and will later chair a special Cabinet meeting at 2:30pm.
The announcement follows the news of the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has adjourned the Wednesday morning session at the National Assembly.
Wetangula relayed that the session would resume for the 2:30pm session during which he would share important news with the lawmakers.
"I will invoke my authority under standing order number one and direct as follows; the sitting of this house is adjourned. We will have a sitting at 2:30pm this afternoon when the speaker will give you some important communication," he stated.
Earlier this morning, news broke that the Orange Democractic Movement (ODM) party leader had died during his morning walk in India.
Subsequently, condolences slowly trickled in, even before President William Ruto or the party confirmed the news.
Avoiding to confirm the news, the ODM Communications Director Philip Etale, simple wrote, "I am deflated" on his social media.
The President is expected to share more details on Odinga's death after concluding the extraordinary meeting of the National Security Council, which kicked off moments ago.
According to Wetangula's communication to the house, the MPs will be appraised on the former Prime Minister's death when they resume this afternoon.
Raila had been missing from the public eye for over a month with reports from the party differing until his older brother, Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga confirmed last week that he was recuperating in India.
According to Indian reports, he collapsed within the premises of an Ayurvedic facility and was rushed to a private hospital in Koothattukulam where he was pronounced dead at around 9:53am Indian Time, on Wednesday.
