Kenya Airways has increased the number of flights to Kisumu over the weekend to accommodate the high demand for travellers.
In the statement on Friday, October 17, the national carrier revealed that the increase was to accommodate the high number of travellers heading to the funeral of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
“We’ve increased our flight frequency to Kisumu over the weekend to accommodate the high travel demand,” the airline stated.
Odinga, who died on October 15, is set to be buried at his father's home in Kang'o, Jaramogi, on Sunday, following a funeral service at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology. On Saturday, his body will lie in state at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu, for public viewing all day, before being taken to his home at Opoda Farm in Bondo for a night vigil.
Added Flights
The airline in the statement stated that it introduced additional flights and aircraft upgrades on the Nairobi- Kisumu route.
The flights added are KQ656 departing at 1:30 pm and KQ658 7pm on Friday, October 17.
It added that on Saturday, October 18, flights KQ650 6:50 am, KQ654 8:05 am upgraded to Boeing 737.
It announced that on Sunday, October 19, KQ654 at 8:05 am and KQ671 at 7 pm will be upgraded to Boeing 737.
According to the airline, KQ 654 upgraded to Boeing 737, and KQ670 upgraded to Boeing 737 on Monday, October 20, 2025.
It added that the airline is committed to ensuring that all guests using the airline have a seamless travels.
"We remain committed to ensuring seamless travel for all our guests," the statement added.
The adjustments came hours after Kenya Airways had reported that most of its flights had been fully booked over the weekend.
