Embakasi East MP, ODM's Babu Owino, has raised concerns over alleged plans to attack him before Raila's burial on Sunday.
In a statement released on Friday, Babu claimed to have been made aware of the plans, though he did not disclose the identity of the planners or their motivations.
He then joined several other politicians in calling for Raila's funeral to be peaceful, with no violence whatsoever.
"There are plans to attack me on or before the day of Baba’s burial," Babu alleged.
"I am aware of the culprits behind the scheme. It is my prayer that we give Baba the befitting send-off that he deserves, devoid of unwarranted violence."
Babu was known as one of the most loyal ODM members who stuck with the party leader to the very end.
However, he has remained indifferent to President William Ruto's broad-based government with Raila's ODM party, even after the two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding in February.
He was strongly opposed to the arrangement that saw ODM and UDA begin to work together.
Since Raila's death, he has been touted as the next big name in the ODM party.
However, he did not reveal whether the alleged plans to attack him had anything to do with these online rumours.
Notably, the MP has shown interest in the Nairobi gubernatorial race, openly criticising the current Governor Johnson Sakaja.
This is despite his former party leader supporting Sakaja and even saving him from a planned impeachment a few weeks ago.
Reportedly, all the Nairobi MCAs from both ends of the political divide had banded together and collected enough signatures to impeach the governor, but a summons by the influential former prime minister thwarted their plans.
