Police officers lobbed teargas at protesters in Maraba, Tinderet constituency, who were seeking answers for the unexplained disappearance of MP aspirant Shadrack Maritim.
Carrying twigs and banners, the residents took to the streets to demand answers, as Maritim has reportedly been missing for just over a week, since October 27.
In videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the protesters were seen burning bonfires and blowing vuvuzelas.
They could also be seen squatting on the ground, seemingly evading the efforts of the police officers to disperse them from the streets.
According to a missing poster of the politician, he reportedly disappeared on Monday, October 27, at about 6am, when he went on his morning run and never returned.
"He went for his routine morning run and never returned. We are extremely worried. Please help us find him," the family notes on the poster.
He reportedly went missing in Cheplaskei, Uasin Gishu County, an area near Eldoret City.
According to reports, he left without his phone and has had no contact with his family or friends since the mysterious disappearance.
He was last seen wearing a grey track jacket, grey sneakers and a pair of bluish track trousers.
However, his whereabouts have not been without controversy, as some political opponents opine that the politician might have faked his disappearance for sympathy points.
Since his disappearance, his supporters have been holding protests, including one held on Saturday, November 1, also held at the Maraba trading centre.
The demonstration came just hours after Nandi County politicians, led by Tinderet MP Julius Melly, visited the Langas Police Station in Eldoret to meet with security agents, seeking clarity and updates on the official investigation into the disappearance.
“Following the unfortunate disappearance of Shadrack Maritim (Captain) since Monday, today, together with my fellow leaders and family members, we visited Langas Police Station to follow up with the authorities on the progress of investigations,” Melly said after the visit.
