The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced that a section of the Thika Superhighway at Juja Highpoint (Centurion) will be partially closed to enable milling and resurfacing works.
The closure will take place over two consecutive weekends. The first closure will take place from Saturday, November 8 to Sunday, November 9, between 11 pm and 6 am. The second will take place from Saturday, November 15 to Sunday, November 16, between 10 am and 2 pm.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that Thika Superhighway will be partially closed at Juja Highpoint (Centurion) to enable milling and recarpeting of the carriageway as from Saturday November 8, 2025 to Sunday November 9, 2025 between 2300hrs to 0600hrs and from Saturday November 15, 2025 to Sunday November 16, 2025, between 1000hrs to 1400hrs,” read the notice.
In the notice, KeNHA urged motorists travelling to Nairobi or Thika to use the adjacent service lanes as an alternative before rejoining the superhighway.
Nairobi-bound traffic was urged to take Exit 15 and enter the service lane at the Shell petrol station, before rejoining the superhighway at the Total petrol station.
For Thika-bound traffic, the motorists were urged to take Exit 15A into the service lane, next to the Rubis petrol station. They would then rejoin the highway at Centurion Highpoint hotel, just a few meters ahead of Lexo petrol station.
“Motorists are advised to exercise caution around the work areas, to follow the proposed traffic management plan below, and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” advised the Authority.
The renovation of the dual carriageway continues a trend of heavy construction works at the area around Highpoint during the course of this year.
Back in February, KeNHA announced a four-day closure at Centurion to allow for the construction of a footbridge after numerous complaints by area residents.
The closure resulted in a significant traffic disruption, despite the Authority giving alternative routes to motorists. KeNHA later announced the reopening of the section after completion of the footbridge works.
Meanwhile, a two-month partial closure of Thika Road at Kihunguro in Ruiru is also in effect, affecting both the Nairobi-bound and Thika-bound service lanes from October 20 to Saturday, December 20.
The closure was effected to allow for the facilitation of the construction of footbridge column bases and stub columns at the location to enhance pedestrian safety.
