The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has given a 30-day ultimatum to importers whose properties are still lying uncollected at the Inland Container Depot and bonded facilities in Nairobi.
In a gazette notice dated November 7, the Chief Manager of the Depot, George Aduwi, as well as the Chief Manager of the Nairobi Customs Station, Michael Watii, said that the authority will go ahead to declare the unclaimed Items as abandoned if owners fail to clear them within the stipulated period.
Goods in these locations will be disposed of through public auction between January 5, 2026, and January 9, 2026, through the authority's auctioning portal.
"Pursuant to the provisions of section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004 as amended (EACCMA, 2004), notice is given that unless the under-mentioned goods are entered and removed from their respective Customs Bonded Facilities within thirty (30) days of this notice," the notice read.
"The goods will be treated as abandoned and will be disposed of in accordance with the provisions of EACCMA, 2004, including being sold by public auction on 5th January, 2026, 6th January, 2026, 7th January, 2026, 8th January, 2026, and 9th January, 2026 through an online portal," it added.
The authority has advised interested individuals to view the goods on December 29-30 at their respective bonded facilities and warehouses.
Among Items that are set to be auctioned by the Taxman from the Inland Container Depot in Nairobi are solar water heating systems, handbags, shoes, raw sugar, filter cigarettes, and furniture.
Other goods that are set to be auctioned include vehicles, including a Jeep Wrangler and a Mercedes-Benz.
Goods in this depot were either destined for Kenya or South Sudan, but the owners never claimed them upon their arrival.
Interested individuals can view the goods at various locations, including Chai Logistics Centre, Syokimau Inland Container Depot, Autoport, and Compact, among others.
On the other hand, some of the goods that the authority intends to auction at Nairobi Bonded facilities include Android Pos Terminal, Cartons Of Lordkingsley Scw, Red wine cases, drinking glasses, vodka, and whisky, among others.
The goods, which were all destined for Kenya, can be viewed at different warehouses, including Rapid Rate Services, Siginon BNBI23 3, Mitchell Cotts - BNBI 537, and Aliiad BNBI530.
