Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) Party Leader Moses Kuria has claimed that there is a planned attack targeting Democracy for Citizens Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua’s upcoming campaign tour over an alleged Ksh10 million debt.
Kuria, in a short statement shared on Tuesday evening, claimed that certain individuals affiliated with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party were planning to pose as CCK members and cause chaos during the event.
According to Kuria, the alleged disruptors intend to attend Gachagua’s rallies dressed in CCK uniforms to create the impression that the party was behind the disturbance.
“It has come to the attention of Chama Cha Kazi that some UDA functionaries are planning to disrupt Rigathi Gachagua's campaign tour dressed in CCK uniforms. They will also demand Ksh 10 million, which Hon Gachagua allegedly took from our candidate, Hon Duncan Mbui,” Kuria said.
He further alleged that the group would demand Ksh10 million, claiming that the former Deputy President owed the amount to his party's candidate in the upcoming by-elections in Mbeere North, Duncan Mbui.
The former Cabinet Secretary and Presidential Advisor dismissed the alleged claims as false, maintaining that neither Gachagua nor Mbui had any financial disputes.
“For the record, Hon Gachagua does not owe any money to Hon Mbui, and any claims to that effect should be treated with the contempt they deserve,” Kuria said.
He described the plan as a deliberate attempt to taint both Gachagua’s and CCK’s image, warning that the incident could be part of a wider scheme to incite political tension ahead of the 2027 General Election.
At the same time, Kuria reiterated that his party had taken a zero-tolerance stance against electoral hostility, noting that his party had learned critical lessons from the 2007–2008 post-election period, vowing not to be associated with any acts of political provocation.
Kuria to IEBC
Kuria also called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to investigate the allegations and take preventive measures before the planned event on November 27.
“What will happen on November 27 is a harbinger of what could happen on August 10, 2027, if these schemes are ignored,” Kuria cautioned.
Ruto-Gachagua Faceoff
Meanwhile, the Mbeere North parliamentary by-election has turned into a high-stakes political battle that could be a litmus test for President William Ruto and former DP Gachagua in the Mt Kenya region.
The United Opposition has backed the Democratic Party candidate, Newton Karish, while the ruling UDA is behind Leonard Muthende.
