The Kenya Meteorological Department now says that rains are expected to continue in the Highland East, the Rift Valley region, Western Kenya and the Lake Victoria basin for the next five days.
In its weekend advisory published on Friday, November 14, the weather department said that while some parts of the country were expected to experience sunny conditions, moderate to heavy rains would occur in the above regions from Friday this week to Tuesday next week.
In the Highland East region, rains were forecasted in Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi counties.
According to Kenya Met, moderate downpours in these counties would start in the mid-morning with slight sunny episodes before another shower in the afternoon and evening.
A similar pattern was predicted in the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria basin counties of Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo and Uasin Gishu.
Other counties in the aforementioned regions are Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet.
While counties in the Highland East region were predicted to experience moderate rains, areas in the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria basin were projected to receive heavy rains.
Kenya Met revealed that rains Rift Valley and Lake Victoria basin would begin mostly in the afternoon and extend to the night, with the downpour expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms.
Likewise, light rains were also predicted in the South-eastern lowland counties of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta as well as inland parts of Tana River County.
Temperature Advisory
While most parts of the country were forecasted to experience a mix of rainy and sunny conditions this weekend, Kenya Met also predicted cold weather in the counties located in the Highland East region.
According to the advisory, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi counties would experience cold nights of up to 5°C.
Similarly, the meteorological department also announced hot daytime weather in the counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties, as well as coastal parts of Tana River County.
The notice highlighted that daytime temperature levels in the above counties would rise to 33°C for the next five days.
Likewise, daytime temperature levels in Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, and Kericho were also expected to rise to 30°C.
