Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok has revealed that the Ministry of Education will issue Grade 10 Placement letters before Christmas.
Speaking in Kikuyu on Monday, November 17, Bitok said that the ministry will begin processing the placement of students to senior schools one week after the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) exam results are released.
The 2025 KJSEA exam started on October 27 and ended on November 3, 2025. The PS has said that the ministry will release the exam results by December 11.
According to the PS, the 1.1 million learners are expected to report to their respective institutions by January 12, 2026.
"We expect that the results will be out by December 11, and we are going to do placement immediately after that so that they can go to senior school," the PS said.
"We expect the students to report on January 12, and that is the plan. We have issued the guidelines to guide the process from the beginning to the end, so there is no confusion on our side," he added.
Bitok has affirmed that the government has architected a solid plan to ensure that the learners' transition to senior school is seamless.
School Fees Changes
The PS has further assured parents that there are no changes in school fees this coming year, and if there are any, the government itself will make the announcement.
"The policy on free education is still in place, and the government has not made any changes in this policy. All our learners will continue enjoying free primary and secondary education. There are no changes in fees; let me make that very clear," Bitok said.
According to Bitok, the ministry will work closely with the Treasury to ensure that education capitation is released on time and ensure that learning activities in all education institutions across the country run smoothly.
The ministry is finalising the school verification process to determine the exact number of students and schools in the country, which will guarantee the timely release of capitation next year, according to the PS.
"One of the reasons we are doing the verification process is to confirm how many students and schools we have and confirm the school's account numbers. We shall not release capitation to schools that have not been verified," the PS said.
"We have done our part for the past two months by ensuring that we capture this data, and we are finalising, and we shall release a report very soon on the number of learners and the number of schools, and as you are aware, this was triggered by the Auditor General," he added.
