Chaos broke out on Thursday morning at Kanyuambora shopping centre in Mbeere North as campaigns continue to heat up in the area.

Reportedly, a group of residents stormed a shop in the shopping centre and stole everything in a chaotic scene captured on camera.

In the video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, dozens of individuals in green campaign reflectors were captured looting the shop and then storming out and scattering away.

Although there is no confirmation whether the looting was politically motivated, some of the looters had on merchandise supporting one of the candidates vying for the constituency seat.

Both Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, are currently in Mbeere North for last-minute campaign rallies ahead of the November 27 by-elections.

Kindiki spent the morning holding a People's Forum in Kanyuambora, an event that attracted hundreds of Mbeere North residents as he drummed up support for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party candidate Leonard Muthede.

He was joined by Geoffrey Ruku, the former MP of the constituency, whose appointment to the Cabinet left a vacancy.

On the other hand, Gachagua continued his early morning walk routine, meeting residents of Mbeere North in Nthawa wards, to campaign for the Democratic Party (DP) candidate Newton Karish.

He went to Muguka farms and the Mla Chake Muguka market, interacting with farmers and traders who often rely on the crop for their upkeep.

The two, Muthende and Karish, are the two leading candidates to take the seat in the upcoming by-elections, with Kindiki and Gachagua seemingly tasked with leading campaigns for the government-backed and the United Opposition candidate, respectively.

From one-on-one interactions with the residents to massive rallies, it is clearly a two-horse race that has sparked intense support on both sides of the divide.

On Tuesday, both Kindiki and Gachagua were spotted having breakfast tea with local residents in attempts to seeemingly get in touch with the ground.
