A student has died and seven others have been injured following an attack by a swarm of bees on a group of pupils in Michacha Village, Samba Sub-location, Suba South Constituency, Homa Bay County.

It is reported that the children may have provoked the bees while playing near their homes before they attacked them.

According to Area Chief Lucas Ocholla, the children were rushed to Magunga Level Four Hospital for emergency treatment following the incident.

He informed the local daily that seven children had been treated and discharged to various homes.

One Child, a Grade One who had sustained serious stings, was referred to St Camillus Sori Hospital, where she later died.

The student's body was then taken to the St Camillus Hospital mortuary.

Ocholla urged parents to keep their children safe during the holidays to prevent similar tragedies.

A similar incident occurred a few weeks ago when a 38-year-old man died following an alleged bee attack on October  2in the same county.

Police from Oyugis Police Station in the Rachuonyo South Sub-county confirmed the incident, stating that Bernard Omollo passed on October 1, 2025, after the attack.

Police reported that Omollo, who had a history of mental illness, was attacked at their neighbour's farm after provoking the bees.

"It was reported by Kadel Kamigigo Sub-Location Assistant Chief Monica that there was a body of a male adult, namely Bernard Omolo, aged 38 years, who was mentally ill and had been attacked by a swarm of bees at their neighbour's farm."

"Omollo had provoked the bees at Atonik Village, about 12 kilometres south of the station," part of the police report reads.
