Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga has issued a strong warning to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) over alleged plans to remove Secretary General Edwin Sifuna from the party.

While addressing the media, Kalasinga alleged emerging political power plays within ODM were deliberately targeting Sifuna and risked alienating the Luhya community.

The MP accused unnamed party power brokers of attempting to silence Sifuna because of his outspoken positions on national issues and governance.

Kalasinga said Sifuna speaks not only for ODM, but also for young people, marginalised Kenyans, and communities that feel excluded from power.

According to the MP, any attempt to force Sifuna out of ODM would trigger serious political consequences, including a possible mass exit from the Western Kenya leaders.

“Touch Sifuna today, and any Luhya leader who chooses to remain in ODM will be a traitor,” Kalasinga warned.

The MP was adamant that leaders across different political parties were ready to unite behind Sifuna and chart a new political path if he were pushed out.

Kalasinga went further to describe Sifuna as a national figure with the qualities needed to lead the country.

“Sifuna is equal to the task of leading this country, with intellect, courage, and age on his side,” he added.

In reference to former ODM leader, the late Raila Odinga, Kalasinga stated that Sifuna had been entrusted to speak for the party and had not deviated from that role.

Kalasinga's tongue-lash comes after Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei claimed that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna will be dethroned as both the Senate's Deputy Minority whip and  Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General in the course of the week, on Monday, January 5, 2025.

On the same day, Migori Senator, Eddy Oketch, filed a motion with the ODM Party leader seeking to de-whip Sifuna as the Senate's Minority Leader, suspend, and even remove the SG from the ODM party.

In addition to Sifuna's woes, the SG had another collision with Minority Whip in the National Assembly, Junet Mohamed, a wrangle in which Members of Parliament allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) called on party leader Oburu Odinga to urgently intervene and quell the escalating tensions between the two ODM heavyweights.
