President William Ruto directed that the GK Prison within Kisii town be moved further away, to create space for 10,000 units of Affordable Housing.
In his address after a church service at Gospel Embassy Chapel in Kisii County, the President promised to move the GK Prisons outside the confines of Kisii town to create space for 10,000 affordable housing units.
The President asserted that prisoners do not need to stay within Kisii town's CBD. Instead, the prisoners would be relocated to a location farther away from the CBD.
Additionally, the President justified his plan for affordable housing in Kisii, suggesting that the diminished size of land parcels in Kisii made Affordable Housing a suitable alternative.
President Ruto then cautioned the congregation members that the continued subdivision of land in Kisii would further reduce the amount of land available for agriculture.
Addressing jubilant residents and local leaders as he concluded a high-octane development tour of the Gusii region, the Head of State used the platform to rally support for his Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) while urging the opposition to shelve ‘unhelpful politics’ for the sake of national development.
Among other initiatives, President Ruto unveiled projects for infrastructure, student housing, and water security.
The President promised to improve the living standards of hostels for students in tertiary education institutions such as Kisii University, Kisii National Polytechnic, TVETs, and KMTC
The President went on to assure the congregation of his commitment to improving accommodation for tertiary education students in the Kisii region.
He shared his desire for student accommodations to improve and match the caliber associated with tertiary education.
The Head of State went on to applaud the Kenya Kwanza administration for being the first government to allocate Ksh.32 billion for housing development to any region in Kenya’s history.
The President concluded by attributing the investment to his administration’s Transformation Agenda for Kenya.
