President William Ruto has urged women across the country to buy houses in the ongoing Affordable Housing Projects.

The President said this during the 16th Anniversary Celebrations of Joyful Women Organization (JoyWO) held on 27th November 2025 at Kasarani Stadium.

Ruto urged women to buy the social housing units in the Affordable Housing Program, which he says are cheap and affordable.

"I want to encourage women from JoyWo that in the 230,000 houses we are constructing, 40,000 of them are social houses that you can buy," Ruto said.

The Head of State further urged women across the country to participate in home ownership.

"We want to encourage more women who are saving their money in JoyWo, Hustler Fund, and all the other Funds to participate in home ownership," Ruto urged.

The President also urged women to register in the Social Health Authority (SHA). Ruto says that the Universal Health Program aims at reducing the health burden from mothers.

Ruto also reiterated the government Program of subsidizing Fertilizers, saying that the move has enabled women across the country engaging in farming to produce more.

During the event, President Ruto praised the First Lady, Rachel Ruto, for founding the Joyful Women Organization, which was founded in 2009 during the beginning of President Ruto's political career.

The Joyful Women Organization (JoyWo) is a non-governmental organization that empowers women economically through Table Banking.

The organization has a group-based financial model where members (typically 10 to 30 women) meet, save money, and immediately borrow from the collective pool.

The Anniversary Celebration was attended by Zimbabwe Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Barbara Rwodzi, who represented the Zimbabwe First Lady, Auxillia Mnangagwa.
