Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has called for the immediate detention of former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi over alleged chaos witnessed in Mbeere North.
In a statement on Thursday, November 27, the lawmaker accused the former Attorney General of assault and election malpractice by allegedly attacking a voter.
Cherargei also called on the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) to consider removing Muturi from the roll of advocates following his unprecedented behaviour at the Siakago polling station.
"Justin Muturi should be apprehended immediately for aggravated assault and election malpractice for attacking innocent voters and causing disruption at Siakago polling station," said Cherargei.
Adding, "These are signs that their disunited opposition candidate is losing the Mbeere North constituency by-elections 2025. LSK should immediately remove him from the roll of advocates," he added.
According to the Senator, the Democratic Party leader's actions during the Mbeere-North by-elections were a huge embarrassment, given the fact that Muturi was once the Attorney General and National Assembly Speaker.
"It's embarrassing that this is a former Attorney General of Kenya, a former Speaker of the National Assembly, a former judicial officer and a former member of Parliament," Cherargei claimed.
Cherargei's demands followed a clip showing Muturi clashing with Thuku Kirunga, the agent of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Leonard Wa Muthende.
The wrangle ensued after the former CS objected to Kiruga's decision to wear a yellow jacket, arguing that the colour represented the UDA party. The clip also showed Muturi confronting another local who was accompanying Wa Muthende’s agent.
While addressing the press moments after the incident, Muturi stated that it was against the law for Kirunga, who is a UDA politician, to don the party's yellow colours.
"What I told him is that he cannot come to the polling station wearing clothes that represent party colours. If he is an authorised agent or observer, he must come wearing other kinds of clothes," Muturi said.
The former CS emphasised that he took action against Kirunga because the presiding officer declined to take action against the politician despite breaching the law.
