United Opposition's parliamentary candidate in the Mbeere North by-election, Newton Karish, has urged his supporters to stay calm while he contests the results of the election.

In a statement on December 4, 2025, ending the Democratic Party candidate's five-day silence following his loss in the November 27 by-election, Karish thanked his supporters for their backing in the by-election.

He urged them to maintain peace and patience while he took the next step in contesting the results.

"I urge you to be calm, maintain peace and be patient as we pursue the next steps to fight for justice over the just concluded by-election outcome," Karish said.

Karish's statement comes after two voters filed a petition in court on Thursday, December 4 2025, seeking the revocation of Wa Muthende's win and a fresh election be conducted.

The petitioners claimed that Wa Muthende was not eligible to run for the Mbeere North parliamentary seat since they allege he was not a registered voter in Mbeere North.

Newton Karish also celebrated his supporters for believing in his vision for the constituency.

"Today, I celebrate you, the peasants, the youth, the women, the elders, and every resident who believes in a better and brighter Mbeere North. Together, against all odds, we have shown that when a people stand united, nothing is impossible," Karish wrote.

Despite the loss, Karish claimed that he remains committed to serving his supporters with integrity, humility and dedication, ensuring a more inclusive Mbeere North.

Newton Karish lost the Mbeere North seat to UDA's Leonard Wa Muthende who garnered 15,802 votes as Karish got 15,308 votes.

The United Opposition alleged that the Mbeere by-elections were marred with irregularities, citing claims of voter bribery, marked ballot papers, and goonism.

The UDA camp also accused the United Opposition of similar allegations, citing voter intimidation by the use of goons, among other claims.
