Ruto, CSs Announce Key Govt Appointments Across Several Sectors

President William Ruto and several Cabinet Secretaries have made several appointments to the government in a bid to streamline and enhance government operations. 

In a gazette notice published on Thursday, Ruto appointed Charles Mahinda as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Competition Authority for a three-year term, effective December 11, 2025. Until his appointment, Mahinda previously served as a senior technical advisor at the Ministry of Agriculture. 

At the same time, Ruto announced that he had revoked the appointment of Shaka Kariuki, who served in the same position. 

“I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Charles W. Mahinda to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Competition Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 11th December, 2025. The appointment of Shaka Kariuki is revoked,” the notice read in part.

The Head of State also appointed Loice Jepkemboi Kipkorir as a member of the Nairobi Rivers Commission for three years, effective December 11, 2025. 

Kipkorir is an environmental consultant and climate change specialist, and currently chairs NEMA’s Environmental Management, Conservation and Technical Committee.

CSs's Appointments 

Meanwhile, Defence CS, Soipan Tuya, announced the appointment of Colonel Richard Mbuva to the Kenya Defence Forces Pension Appeals Committee for a three-year term, effective December 11, 2025.  

Her Water counterpart, Eric Mugaa, appointed Lorna Timanoi Nkowua as a member of the Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency for three years, replacing Letulala ole Masikonde.

Education CS, Julius Ogamba, on the other hand, named James Mugambi Kimathi as Chairperson of the Mitunguu National Polytechnic Council for a three-year term. 

Ogamba also appointed Benjamin Okumu Okullu, Susan Mwebia, Stephen Rukaria, Edward Omoti, and Joan Gituma as members of the institution for three-year terms. 

Further in the Lands docket, CS Alice Wahome appointed an ad hoc committee for the delineation of the boundaries of the proposed Municipality of Siakago in Embu County. She appointed Irene Kyatu of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to chair the committee.

In Turkana County, Wahome appointed a committee to delineate the boundaries of Lodwar and Kakuma Municipalities. She appointed Mathew Thiga of IEBC to chair the committee, with Solomon Ambwere as Secretary. 

Wahome further appointed a committee for the boundaries of Bute, Habaswein, Hadado, Eldas, Tarbaj, Khorof Harar, and Griftu Urban Areas in Wajir County.
