Media personality Oga Obinna escaped detention on Friday, after former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko intervened, stopping lawyers Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta from going after him.
Omari and Ombeta had reported a cyber misuse claim against Obinna at the DCI, a case that could have resulted in the media personality and the young lawyer being apprehended.
Cliff Ombeta revealed this during the reconciliation meeting held at the former governor's office in Nairobi on December 19, organised by Sonko, who, together with Danstan Omari, was not present at the meeting.
"We had reported the matter to the DCI for misuse of cyber; you were going to be apprehended," lawyer Cliff Ombeta revealed.
Ombeta further stated that they have withdrawn the case and shall not proceed to court and sue the media personality, nor shall they ask for costs and damages.
The case stemmed from Obinna's show, where he claims to have issued a disclaimer on the remarks made by a young lawyer, but Ombeta clarified that the disclaimer could not save Obinna from prosecution.
"The disclaimer does not help you. Why? It is being carried on your platform. Your platform reaches so many people; if he speaks by himself out there, he will not reach anybody," Ombeta explained.
The prominent lawyer has advised Obinna to direct his interviewees against going overboard and making defamatory remarks about other individuals while on his show.
The young lawyer also apologised to the two lawyers for his remarks; however, he claimed that he was not specifically referring to the two in his graft allegations, saying that he was referring to bribery within the judiciary.
The interview in question took place on December 16, where the young lawyer claimed that Omari and Ombeta do not take up court cases to completion but rather take cases for publicity.
The young lawyer also accused the two prominent lawyers of graft, remarks that got him in trouble.
The matter is now settled, with Oga Obinna clarifying that it is not his intention to malign people on his show.
