The Asake Concert event organiser and Nigerian artist Ahmed ‘Asake’ Ololade have released separate condolence statements mourning the demise of Karen Lojore during a stampede at a concert held at Nyayo National Stadium on December 20.
In a statement on Monday, December 22, Asake, who headlined the concert, broke his silence, saying he was devastated by the incident that claimed the life of Karen Lojore.
The Nigerian hitmaker extended his condolences to the bereaved family, stating that he would support efforts to understand what had happened and calling for accountability where responsibility was established.
“My heart goes out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Karen Lojore,” Asake wrote, adding that it was painful that an event meant to spread joy ended in tragedy.
While describing music as a medium of love and unity, the musician expressed his sadness that a fan lost her life while attending the show.
Asake concluded his statement by offering prayers for the family and paying tribute to the deceased, saying he hoped Karen would rest in peace.
Karen Lojore, a youth in her 20s, passed away on Saturday, December 20, after a stampede during the night of the Nigerian artiste Asake’s concert at Nyayo Stadium.
The event promoters confirmed the fatal incident occurred during the concert, expressing sorrow over the loss of life and extending condolences to the bereaved family.
In a statement issued on Sunday, December 21, the organisers said the safety and well-being of attendees is a priority and noted that the company was fully cooperating with emergency services and relevant authorities to establish what led to the incident.
The promoters added that they would not speculate on the circumstances surrounding the tragedy while investigations are ongoing, pledging to act with care, transparency, and accountability as more information becomes available.
“As we mourn this devastating loss, our hearts are with the family, friends, and loved ones affected,” the statement read in part.
Authorities are yet to release official findings, with investigations ongoing to determine how the stampede occurred and whether safety protocols were adequately enforced.
