Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested the main suspect in the fatal shooting of a 35-year-old man in Ang’ata Barrikoi, Trans Mara South, on August 13, 2025.

According to investigations by the detectives, on the night of the attack, residents reported hearing gunshots near Loliondo Farm in the Mashangwa area along Ngeendalel–Mashangwa Road.

Responding to the matter, officers discovered the victim had been shot twice in the head at close range, prompting an immediate investigation.

Preliminary findings indicate that the victim was ambushed by a gang of about eight armed men, who fled through a nearby sugarcane plantation towards Migori County.

''The crime scene was meticulously documented, and the body transferred to Kilgoris Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy,'' a police report added in part.

A manhunt was launched, and following forensic leads, detectives tracked and apprehended the main suspect in Lolgorian on December 31, 2025.

The suspect was arraigned at Kilgoris Law Courts but could not raise the Ksh 100,000 cash bail and was subsequently remanded at Lolgorian Police Station.

The case is set for mention on January 13, 2026, as investigations continue with detectives now following additional leads to locate and arrest the remaining accomplices who are still at large.

The arrest follows months of prolonged land ownership disputes in Trans Mara that have dominated 2025 and repeatedly sparked violent confrontations.

On December 16, 2025, more than 30 houses were torched, and several people were injured following renewed land-related clashes in Ang’ata Barikoi, an area along the Migori–Narok border.

The violence erupted after armed youths attacked Llama and Rotik villages, destroying homes and property during confrontations linked to a long-standing land dispute.

Amid safety concerns, dozens of residents abandoned their homes, with many taking refuge at a nearby primary school now serving as a temporary shelter for displaced families.

The escalating unrest prompted the government to impose a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Trans Mara East and Trans Mara South sub-counties in Narok County, following clashes that left at least seven people dead and more than 120 houses razed.
