Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has finally broken his silence on a frightening encounter with Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai at a popular restaurant along Lenana Road in Kilimani, Nairobi, which he says posed a direct threat to his life.

In a statement to the public on Sunday, January 4, Babu said the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when he attended a meeting with a senior clergyman, in the absence of his security detail, whom he said he had released for the Christmas holidays.

The MP recounted that after holding discussions for about twenty minutes, he noticed a group of people seated at a nearby table, including Robert Alai.

According to Babu, Alai accused him of orchestrating social media attacks against his wife, an allegation he vehemently denied.

“I calmly explained that I do not know his wife, that she has never wronged me in any way, and that I have no reason whatsoever to involve innocent family members in politics. It is not my style to advance my politics by attacking women,” Babu said.

The situation escalated, with Babu alleging that Alai became aggressive, pushed him, drew a pistol, and struck him on the chest and jaw, with the lawmaker saying that this occurred in full view of other patrons at the restaurant.

Moments later, the MP said Alai poured a glass of water on his face, prompting a crowd to gather.

To avoid further confrontation, Babu said that he immediately left the premises and reported the matter at Kilimani Police Station.

He described the episode as part of a larger pattern of threats and intimidation that he says began following the passing of Raila Odinga.

He referenced earlier assaults at a Siaya burial, blaming them on coordinated political attacks orchestrated against him.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans on social media. At the time of reporting, Alai had not responded to the allegations, and the police had yet to provide an update on the ongoing investigation.
