The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has invited applications for key positions, among them Chief Kadhi and Registrar, as interviews for other posts continue.
JSC made the announcement on Friday, January 16, 2026, just weeks after it advertised multiple vacancies and commenced the vetting of candidates for superior court positions nationwide.
The Chief Kadhi position fell vacant following the untimely death of its former holder, Sheikh Athman Abdul-Halim Hussein, in mid-2025.
Chief Kadhi is Kenya's senior judge for Islamic law, heading the Kadhis' Courts that handle Muslim personal status matters like marriage, divorce, and inheritance, supervising other Kadhis, ensuring legal integrity, advising the government and managing administrative duties for the court system.
The vacant JSC registrar position was previously held by Anne Atieno Amadi until January 2024 whose role was to provide strategic leadership and oversight in the management of the JSC's functions and day-to-day administration
According to the announcement, the JSC said applications for the senior leadership and technical posts, including ICT roles, will close on February 5, 2026.
Currently, the commission is conducting interviews for 15 Court of Appeal positions, with 35 shortlisted candidates undergoing public vetting.
The interview process, which began on January 12, includes 21 sitting judges and 14 senior advocates competing for the available slots.
Additionally, JSC declared a Supreme Court judge vacancy on January 13, 2026 following the death of Justice Mohamed Ibrahim earlier this month.
The commission advertised 26 vacancies across professional fields in November 2025, signaling an aggressive push to address staffing gaps.
All interviews are being streamed live on JSC's YouTube and Facebook platforms for transparency as Kenya's judiciary tackles its personnel shortages.
JSC noted that Interested candidates can apply through the official JSC Jobs Portal for the advertised positions.
