Nyambaria High School Alumni Write a Protest Letter to the Principal After a Dormitory was re-named after President Uhuru Kenyatta

The Nyambaria High School alumni have sent a letter to the institution's Principal expressing dismay after one of the dormitories in the school was renamed after President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The President had visited the school to commission the dormitory which was constructed in 1997.

The dormitory was previously named after a Mr Sakagwa – a celebrated and respected Prophet in Gusii Land who is said to have foretold colonialism.

The alumni accused the Principal and Board of Management of politicising educational and cultural matters within the institution.

“If the school management wanted to appease President Uhuru Kenyatta, they should have asked to lay a foundation for the construction of a new dormitory and name it after the President,” the letter read in part.

According to the alumni, even at the time of its renovation, a delicate approach was followed to ensure the dormitory's original structure was maintained.

The sentiments of the alumni received backing from the residents of Nyambaria.

The President and his Deputy William Ruto begun a two-day tour yesterday of Kisii and Nyamira counties with an aim of launching different projects and urging residents to re-elect the Jubilee Government.

Kisii and Nyamira Counties are considered Opposition strongholds.
