Details of the 2017 Mater Heart Run

A section of roads in Nairobi will remain closed on Saturday, May 20 to make way for the annual fundraising event organized by the Mater Misericordiae Hospital.

The 2017 edition of the Matter Heart Run in Nairobi will temporarily interrupt operations along Uhuru Highway, Mbagathi Road and Lang'ata Road.

The procession will kick off at 7 am with a warm up session at the Nyayo National Stadium and will proceed along Uhuru Highway through Bunyala Road.

Participants will advance to the City Mortuary roundabout where they will join Mbagathi Road and later return to the Nyayo Stadium via Lang'ata Road.

Mater Heart Run is an initiative that helps raise funds for the Mater Cardiac Program which identifies and treats children with heart ailments, especially those from poor socio-economic background.

Over 3000 heart procedures in the management of Rheumatic fever have been performed since the program's inception in 1995.

This year’s Run is scheduled to take place simultaneously in nine different centres around Kenya; Nairobi: Nyayo Stadium, Mombasa: KPA Sports Club, Mbaraki, Kisumu: Jomo Kenyatta Grounds, Nyeri: Kamukunji Grounds, Mumias: Booker Academy, Machakos: Kenyatta Stadium, Nakuru: Afraha Stadium, Meru: Meru National Polytechnic and Eldoret: Moi Girls High School

To contribute to the cause and ensure more children benefit from the critical surgeries, one can give a donation through the M-pesa pay bill number provided in the banner below or get merchendise to participate in the run.

"We thank you most sincerely for your support, we cannot adequately express the value you add to our efforts to 'touch a child’s heart'," read a statement by the hospital's CEO Dr Kennedy Manyonyi.
