Activists Blacklist 20 Politicians Ahead of Elections

Activists under the National Integrity Alliance have blacklisted 20 politicians from the August General Election over integrity issues.

The list includes top leaders from both Jubilee Party and the National Super Alliance (NASA) and is set to cause ripples ahead of the elections.

First on the list is former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru who will vie for the Kirinyaga governorship.

Waiguru has been in the spotlight for a while now due to her alleged involvement in the Sh791 Million National Youth Service (NYS) scandal that rocked her docket and questions continue to be raised.

Governors Alfred Mutua (Machakos) and Evans Kidero (Nairobi) are also listed by the activists and both have recently been accused of misusing resources in their respective counties.

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, who has been at loggerheads with the government is also on the list alongside Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka who was accused of procuring and spending more than Sh1 million on 10 wheelbarrows which he referred to as non-carcinogenic

Governor Okoth Obado (Migori), who faced charges of corruption at Gor Mahia football club, is also listed together with Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria and Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay).

Also in the list is Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko, Gatundu MP Moses Kuria, Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi, Uasin Gishu Jubilee Woman Rep nominee Gladys Boss Shollei, Elizabeth Ongoro, George Ochilo Ayako, Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel, Samwel Kazungu Kambi and Stephen Murathi Kambi.

According to the activists, the said leaders should not be allowed to contest in the upcoming polls. 

Nonetheless, only the IEBC can disqualify a candidate with advice either from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the courts or other investigating agencies.
