8 Presidential Candidates Facing Disqualification from 2017 Elections After Failing to Get 2000 Signatures

Eight presidential candidates in the coming elections are staring at disqualification.

The aspirants, who are independent candidates, failed to collect and submit 2000 signatures from at least 24 counties as required by law.

Sources privy to the information revealed that the aspirants were to submit the signatures of non-party affiliated supporters by May 22 but failed to meet the deadline.

Locking out the eight aspirants will see the race to State House narrow down to 8 with Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta leading the race.

During a meeting with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Tuesday, the independent candidates slammed the electoral body claiming that the signature requirement was part of a conspiracy to lock out independent candidates.

Nazlin Umar who is an independent candidate promised to move to court to challenge IEBC.

She claimed that IEBC had not gazetted their names before giving them forms to collect the signatures as required by law.

IEBC will on Sunday receive papers from NASA leader Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka before making public the list of presidential candidates.
