President William Ruto has announced new state appointments in the latest round of postings to various parastatals.
In a gazette notice dated Friday, September 5, 2025, the Head of State appointed Samier Muravvej as the new Chairperson of the Kenya Fisheries Service.
Muravvej will be the new Chairperson and will hold the position for three years. The new role started on Friday, September 5, 2025.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 11 (1) (a) of the Fisheries Management and Development Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Dr. Samier Muravvej to be the non-executive Chairperson of the Kenya Fisheries Service, for a period of three years, with effect from the September 5, 2025,” the statement read.
In the same announcement, President Ruto also revoked Muravvej's previous appointment.
Muravvej was the non-executive Chairperson of the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC). He had been in that role since July 2025.
Muravvej, a dental surgeon and entrepreneur, is a public health leader with more than 20 years of experience in healthcare, technology, and real estate.
He previously served as Chairperson of the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Board after his appointment in February 2023. He has since been succeeded by Abbas Gullet at the nation's largest public hospital.
NLC Appointments
This appointment came days after Ruto appointed a selection panel for the National Land Commission, as well as making appointments to several state commissions and corporations.
President Ruto announced the appointment of Jasper Micheni Mbiuki, Peris Mang’ira, Electine Nasambu, Ann Mwangangi, Bibiana Rabuku Omalla, Nichola Letting and Rehema Dida Jaldesa to the panel.
“PURSUANT to rule 64 of the Supreme Court Rules, the Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court amends the Supreme Court (General) (Amendment) Practice Directions, 2020, set out in the Schedule to Gazette Notice No. 9586 of 2020 in the manner set out in the Schedule hereto,” the notice reads.
The current NLC board's tenure will end on 14 November 2025.
