Jubilee Party Ordered to Conduct Nominations in Kisii Within 48 Hours

President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party (JP) has been issued with a 48-hour ultimatum following a dispute that emerged from the recently concluded nominations.

The Party was on Thursday ordered to conduct fresh nominations for the Kisii gubernatorial race within the next two days.

JP was further directed to hold similar polls in four constituencies within the county during the same period.

This follows a case launched at the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal after the primaries in which Senator Chris Obure won, garnering 208,091 votes against his main rival, Alfred Nyangweso, who got 4,782.

Earlier, the party had issued direct nomination certificates to Obure and incumbents from Kitutu Chache North, Bomachoge Chache and Bonchari constituencies.

However, some aspirants led by Nyangweso moved to the Tribunal to have Jubilee compelled to hold nominations like it happened in other areas.

The petitioners, in their case, argued that they had already paid nominations fees after being assured of a free and fair exercise.

After results of the primaries were announced, the losers declared that they would not accept the numbers claiming that the polls were conducted without their knowledge.
