Fake Doctor Peter Nyapeni Arrested at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital

Police on Wednesday evening arrested a 26-year-old man who had been masquerading as a doctor at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.

According to the hospital’s security officer Joash Mageto, the Standard Seven drop-out, Peter Nyapeni, had been posing as a doctor at the hospital for over six months.

Mageto said that he had been tracking the suspect for a week after suspicions arose that he was masquerading at the facility as a medical student.

He stated that the suspect had been reporting for ‘night duty’ before they pounced on him Wednesday evening at the hospital’s emergency unit as he pretended to register patients.

When nabbed, the suspect revealed that he had been working at the hospital since last November after he dropped out of school in Class Seven in 2006.

“I have always dreamt of becoming a doctor but I am yet to get that opportunity. I came here last year looking for a job but failed to find one,” said Nyapeni.

Nyapeni claimed that he was allowed into the facility by one of the administrators who allowed him to be a casual worker after he failed to get him a job because he did not have money to bribe the officer.

Staff at the hospital disclosed that the suspect had been seen in a number of wards and would occasionally join female students and help to dress wounds.

Kisii Central OCPD Francis Nguli confirmed the incident and stated that they were investigating the quack doctor and were planning to arrest his accomplices.

Nyapeni's incident comes months after another suspect, Ronald Melly, was arrested while also masquerading as a doctor at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital.

Mr Melly reportedly 'treated' patients in Kapsabet and at the Meteitei sub-county hospitals.
